2007 Fall Forum on Governance

Cultivating Innovation: From the Board Room to the Box Office

New York City, November 9–11, 2007

About the Program:

For the 2007 Fall Forum, the gathering focused on how managers and boards think about innovation. Do arts organizations set aside resources for artistic leaders and managers to innovate? How can we stimulate creative thinking in order to develop and implement new strategies to move organizations forward?

The keynote speaker was Peter Gelb, General Manager of the Metropolitan Opera, who laid the groundwork for innovation exploration. He shared the organizational context and culture of The Metropolitan Opera that has allowed him to embark on their recent innovations. Discussion topics included: what today's teens are saying about theatre, innovations in financial structures, innovation in philanthropy, innovations in space and an in-depth look at the governing boards survey, among others. The Fall Forum brought together approximately 150 participants.
