With an average age of 70, the six main characters in Last Dance at Dum Dum are a dying breed. They are all members of the Anglo-Indian community in Calcutta, a fiercely proud group for whom the imperial sun has never set. They are more British than the British despite their mixed race, and they cling fiercely to their supposed superiority over the rest of the population.
